WOMBA REFUGEE CAMP, BENISHANGUL-GUMUZ | APRIL 3, 2026Following months of intensive training and structural preparation, the vision of community-led peacebuilding became a vibrant reality on the pitches of Womba Refugee Camp. On April 3, the Youth Peace Ambassadors and Community Peace Forum (CPF) members—who began their journey with THCO in January 2026—successfully organized a "Football for Peace" tournament that bridged the divide between host communities and Sudanese refugees. The Power of Local OwnershipWhat made this event extraordinary was its leadership. This was not an event managed from a distant office; it was designed, coordinated, and executed by the Youth Peace Ambassadors and Community Peace Forum members themselves. These young leaders, representing both the Sudanese refugee population and the Ethiopian host community, utilized the mediation and coordination skills they acquired during their THCO training earlier this year. Their ability to mobilize their own communities proves…

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently conducted a Joint Operational Review (JOR) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from March 27th to March 31st, 2023. The review aimed to assess WHO's humanitarian response to northern Ethiopia and drought emergencies, identify gaps, challenges, and best practices, and integrate them into the next phase of the response and recovery plans.  The healthcare system and service delivery in health facilities in Ethiopia have been severely disrupted due to conflict, food insecurity, recurring outbreaks, and limited health emergency management and surveillance capacities.
