Project description:
Once a flourishing and peaceful region, Tigray has been torn apart by
conflict and violence, leaving thousands of displaced and destitute. Since November
2020, the war in Tigray escalated, leading to widespread displacement, loss of
lives, and damage to infrastructure.
As a result, many people have been forced to flee their homes and seek
refuge in makeshift camps. These internally displaced people (IDPs) have been
facing numerous challenges, including a lack of access to basic necessities
such as food, water, shelter, and healthcare.
THCO designed a project called “Warmth for All” to provide clothing,
blankets and sleeping mats to IDPs. This has targeted 15, 000 vulnerable IDPs
during Tigray conflict to provide support and comfort to IDPs with special
attention to women and children, elderly and people with disability. The
project have provided clothing for the elderly and children; blankets and
sleeping mats were distributed to the elderly and women headed households.
In addition to providing clothing, blankets and sleeping mats, “Warmth for
All” also offered other support to families to improve their overall wellbeing.
This includes providing cash for medicine, linking very poor families with the
diaspora to get more help in kind and in cash.
